About Marie Witte

Marie Witte

As a young child in Patras, Greece, Marie Witte, then known as Maria Panoutsopoulou, could frequently be found drawing in the fine dirt of the walled yard of her foster home. After her adoption at five years old by an American family, Marie carried her nascent love of art to her new country, now drawing on the sandy beaches of San Diego. As a young adult, Marie studied Art and Psychology at San Diego State University receiving a BA with honors. As an Art History graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, she focused on the Dutch Renaissance. While painting portraits on commission, Marie also sold paintings at galleries throughout America. Some of Marie's early work continues in the tradition of the sixteenth...
